"My body will not be a tomb for other creatures."
Earth day has become pretty meaningless to me. Everyone claims to care about the earth and want to make it a better place, yet they do nothing to change it. Most people’s actions towards “helping the planet” isn’t really so they can help the earth, it’s so they can help themselves. They want to feel good about themselves for doing little, meaningless things that they believe makes a difference. They think these little things they do (like recycling, or using less water) can outweigh all their other destructive actions. But it simply doesn’t. You can’t claim to be an environmentalist if there is meat, dairy, and eggs on your plate. You can’t say “I love the earth,” if you eat animals and their products. It’s just not right. It takes 16-20 times the amount of natural resources required to feed a meat and dairy eater then it takes to feed a vegan. Factory farming accounts for 37% of methane emissions, which is SIGNIFICANTLY more harmful than carbon dioxide. Meat production emits more greenhouse gases than the ENTIRE transportation sector. Hundreds of millions of acres are clear cut for livestock grazing, or to grow corn and soybeans for livestock to eat. 7 football fields of land is bulldozed EVERY MINUTE to create room for animals being grown to feed humans. 150 billion animals are murdered each year to feed a population of 7 billion. Think of all that poop, shit that is ending up directly in our water and killing countless animals and water bodies. Eating animals also uses an immense amount of water, it’s disguting. Producing one pound of animal protein requires around 100 times more water than producing one pound of vegetable protein. Animal agriculture is completely destroying the earth. Want to do something meaningful this earth day? And everyday for the rest of your life? Go vegan.
